Raising Campaign Cash: Texas CD22

After spending $7.5 Million Kathaleen Wall has lost. Again. Maybe she needs to try challenging Brian Babin in CD36. Her racist bullhorns might work there.

Tony Nehls only raised $517,000 and has only $29,000 cash on hand. This total includes about $120,000 since April 2020. For a Congressional candidate this is a very poor showing. He is lucky that this seat is a target for the Republican Party otherwise he would be on his own with no avenues of fundraising. This used to be a safe seat. That was the way it was drawn during re-districting. Now the party has to fight to keep it after Congressman Pete Olson cut and ran and left the seat open. They are also stuck with a Trump loyalist.

During that same time, April - July, Sri Preston Kulkarni raised almost $1 Million. He has raised $2.5 Million in total and has $1.2 Million cash on hand. He is clearly in the lead in money and enthusiasm.

Nehls is another Wall without the money. He supports Trump's racist behavior but will distance himself from him as if he was a baby in a poopy diaper at a pool party. He will have a hard time trying to wipe Trump's stink off of him over the next couple of months.

Ask Judge Ed Emmett what happens when you stand with a racist and keep your mouth shut.

Kathaleen Wall is a candidate endorsed by Governor Abbott, spending her own money to win a seat in Congress, and has recently sent out a racist ad concerning the Coronavirus. She is in a runoff in CD22 against Fort Bend Sheriff Tony Nehls.

When your opponent, or someone you know, says something that is racially dividing or just plain racist, you have two options. 1) Denounce it. Say it is wrong. Say the statement does not represent you, your campaign, or the party. or 2) Stay quiet as if you agree.

Judge Emmett stayed quiet while his leader made racist comments over and over again. He lost his job in 2018. Nehls has been quiet. Not a peep out of him. Zero. Zip. Nada. The Texas Democratic Party as well as the Democratic nominee for CD22 has not been quiet. From a press conference:

From Donald Trump to John Cornyn to Kathaleen Wall, Republicans everywhere have taken to racist dog-whistles to distract from their mismanagement of the coronavirus crisis. This racist rhetoric is dangerous to our Texas AAPI community, the fastest growing community in the state, and has already caused a “spike in prejudice” against Asian Americans. 

It's as if Tony Nehls, Greg Abbott, John Cornyn, and the entire Republican Party agrees with racist Walls. It's who they are. It's what they have become.

Loaning Campaign Cash: Kathaleen Wall in CD22

In 2018 Kathaleen Wall, a heavy donor to Greg Abbott, spent $6 Million of her own money in her race for Congress to replace Ted Poe. She lost coming in a distant 3rd place missing the runoff. Now she is spending over $3 Million of her own money to try for CD22, a district she doesn't live in. 

Wall is a gun loving MAGAt. She bows to Donald Trump as if he was a god. She would bring exactly what is not needed in CD22, conflict and division in a diverse community. Let's see if the other MAGAts will buy her buying the seat or would go for another Bush, who doesn't live the district either.

Texas Congressional candidate sued for defamation

This just can't be good for Texas Congressional District 22 Candidate Nyanza Moore especially since she will be on the debate stage this Saturday with her opponent and the plaintiff of a defamation suit against her.

CD22 has 2 outstanding candidates running in the Democratic Primary, Sri Preston Kulkarni and Derrick Reed. Nyanza Moore is a "progressive" political commentator on FOX-26 Houston's "What's Your Point," and entered the race early this year. Nyanza has recently posted some nasty attacks against Council Member Reed on Facebook. I only heard about the attacks and didn't think more of it until yesterday. They are truly nasty attacks. Turns out Reed isn't playing with the allegations, Nyanza, or her friends and has filed suit against Nyanza Moore and Friends of Nyanza Moore. 

Nyanza entered the race against an established and hard working candidate Sri Preston Kulkarni. Sri has boots on the ground and a campaign structure in place already. Nyanza cannot raise adequate funds to build her campaign. She was out raised 10-1. She has made comments about the gay community that were not appreciated and her friends accused a group of racism when she was not recommended for endorsement. (I was on the end of that accusation)

So now Nyanza faces a suit in Brazoria County and will have the opportunity to back up her attacks with facts.

Raising Campaign Cash: CD22 12/31/2019

Sri Preston Kulkarni raised $1.1 Million leading the other Democrats almost 10-1.
Reed raised $142,458.
Moore raised $142,528 with a $35,596 loan.

Bush raised $663,097 who is now probably the front runner although his reports are very strange. Camarillo is a republican wannabe Hispanic. He raised $61,092. Troy Nehls the rabid trump loving, foaming at the mouth, sheriff raised $108,747 second to Bush. Kathaleen Wall raised only $4700 and is having to depend on $1.6 Million of her own money to win.

Why are you running?

It just bothers the hell out of me.

The filing deadline for the Democratic Primary ended last night and we have a couple of Democratic elected officials with primary challengers. It begs the question, why? What has the current elected official done, or not done, that demands a candidate to challenge for the position? It's a question that must be asked.

There are a couple of races that demand a challenge, based upon performance in office, but so far they are few and far between. I can name at least one Judge (Elaine Palmer) that should be challenged based upon their record and evaluation provided by the Houston Bar Association but most are doing a fine job.

There are some candidates that do not deserve a challenge such as Judge Steven Kirkland and Judge Leslie Briones. Judge Briones was appointed to the bench after Judge Bill McLeod resigned after 2 months on the bench to run for the Texas Supreme Court. According to law the act of filing for Supreme Court, after being on the job for 2 months, automatically caused the resignation. Instead of challenging a Judge that needs to be challenged he has decided to run against a Judge that has been doing a great job.

So candidates running against incumbents in the primary should be prepared to answer the question. Why?

UPDATE: Sri almost out raises all other candidates combined running for CD22!

UPDATE: Sri out raises his primary opponents 8-1 with $817,139. Reed raised $114k, Moore $112K. As expected, Kathaleen Wall put $600,048 of her own money into her campaign. Harris raised $211,000 including a $120,000 loan.

I'm expecting Kathaleen Wall to file with a few million of her own money. She ran in the republican primary in CD2 with $6 Million of her own money. She came in 3rd place. The three who have filed already have not been very successful. Most are using their own money or depending upon in-kind donations. Chevalier received about $6700 in donations with one being $4000, $1300 over the limit.

Kathaleen Wall buying another seat in Congress?

Kathaleen Wall ran in the Republican primary for Congressional District 2 in 2016. She donated $800,000 to Gov Abbott who has endorsed her. She invested $6 Million of her own money into her own campaign, raising only $10,000 from others. And she lost, and lost bad. She came in 3rd place. Buying an election has become a campaign strategy for republicans much like Money Mayes Middleton who spent $2.5 Million of his own money to win a House seat.

Now Wall is trying to buy the primary for CD22, a seat abandoned by Congressman Pete Olson. Much like CD2 we should expect a huge amount of money to be spent on ads showing she is the best Trump supporter in the race, and the most loaded candidate with guns and money.

Kathaleen Walls stands with trump and is loaded. What could possibly go wrong with that strategy?

Raising Campaign Cash: CD22 Kulkarni out raises Olson

My previous post on this fundraising period was incorrect. Let me try this again:

Sri Preston Kulkarni raised $420,824 during the last reporting period. Pete Olson, the incumbent in a once safe red district, raised only $380,317 with $275,412 coming from special interest PACs. 

Olson has $482,712 COH and Kulkarni has $345,421. Nyanza Moore, who is challenging Kulkarni in the primary raised $73,705 with $5,586 COH. There are a couple of fringe candidates that have no idea what they are doing.

Buckle up Pete. After voting to support Trump's racist comments you have a very tough race on your hands. The following is based upon 2 quarters:

The Honorable and Childish Pete Olson

It makes you want to ask Congressman Pete Olson: "How old are you? 12?". From his latest tweet:

Aint that just so cute. This is a Uniteds States Congressman tweeting this childish stupidity. Olson used to be in a safe district so he was required to be the waterway for Trump, to lead chants like CNN Sucks, to nominate Trump for a Noble Peace Prize for his photo op with Kim Jun Un. Its what you do when you are in a safe district. But that has changed.

In 2018 he returned to Congress after winning by only 3 points, in a district he was to have won by 15. In 2020 he will have a well financed and experienced challenger that has reached out to all voters in the district and one that would actually be worthy of the label "The Honorable".

Until then Olson is worthy of the label "The Childish".
