When Texas loses money, gun violence will be addressed

It's all about money in Texas.

As long as Texans have a beer, a big screen TV, and a remote, nothing is going to happen concerning gun safety. Nothing. People being killed in church, shopping, attending a rally, going to school, or just driving on the streets will not, has not, swayed the opinions of Legislators who represent the gun industry. There is only one thing our elected officials understand in Texas and that is money.

Companies who are looking to Texas to bring jobs might think twice when they realize that gun violence has become a way of life, or death in Texas. They might think twice when they realize that our elected officials are more concerned about protecting their relationship with the NRA than protecting the lives of employees and their families.

Texas has been a magnet for business due to its lax business laws, protections from lawsuits, and low taxes but it is also a magnet for gun nuts walking in the streets dressed in military uniforms, carrying assault weapons with high capacity clips. Maybe some day the companies in Texas will stand up against gun violence much like 145 CEOs did in a letter to Congress. From the letter:
“Gun violence in America is not inevitable; it’s preventable,” the business leaders wrote. “We need our lawmakers to support common-sense gun laws that could prevent tragedies like these.”
Common sense concerning guns doesn't work in Texas. The loss of life of 10 students, 6 police officers, 27 worshipers, 22 shoppers, 7 drivers, our friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family members is not enough to change the minds of our elected officials to enact common sense gun laws.

Only money will.

Violent crime has fallen dramatically in Texas. The murder rate is about a third of what it was just 30 years ago, and it's lower than the national average. We're doing something right.

Lol. Yeah. Right. More guns means less crime. Tell that to the families of the students, police officers, worshippers, etc.

I didn't say anything about more guns causing less crime. I'm not sure what has caused the massive drop in murders. It's probably a combination of things - improvements in policing, sentencing policy, even better emergency medicine.

But there has been a massive drop in violent crime nationwide and a steeper drop in Texas.

What do you think caused it?

John, what do you think caused the huge decline in violent crime in Texas in the past 30 years?
