I remember saying "Phil Gramm bored me. Pat Robertson scared the crap out of me." Today's Republican Party attending the CPAC convention should terrify everyone.

CPAC used to be a convention for conservatives, people who believed in respect, honor, and dignity. It was the rally convention for the Republican Party. Today it's more like the KKK representing the party with Khaos, Korruption, and Kruelty.

Greg Abbott spoke at the convention and gave a standing ovation to their speaker, the extreme far right Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban who warned about mixing races, the gay community, non-whites, and non-christians among other racist topics. The speech was nothing but racist.

The convention showed that the Republican Party has returned to it's true roots of the KKK. They are nothing but Khaos, spewing lies about election fraud when they lose. They cause chaos just for the sake of causing chaos. They lie about everything and when faced with facts, they simply double down on the lies knowing their base are too lazy to research.

They are Korrupt with many running for office with felony indictments like our State Attorney General Ken Paxton. They are running to the defense of over 800 charged with the assault on our capitol on Jan 6. They turn a blind eye to those who are breaking the law just as long as they are on their side.

And they are simply Kruel. Republicans love to intimidate, allowing 18 year olds to buy assault weapons and walk in public with them. They vilify those that seek a better life here in the United States. They separate children from their mothers. They talk tough. They act tough but are actually cowards like Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley running away when faced with conflict. They enjoy pushing the envelope on decency, common sense, and honor. They are racist.

This is the old Republican Party. This is the new Republican Party.
Bay Area Houstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00308326373999393221noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17537478.post-60152018009565326622022-08-04T10:43:00.000-05:002022-08-04T10:43:01.235-05:00Who is paying for failed CCISD candidate Misty Dawson's legal bills?

CNN recently aired a show, Deep in the Pockets of Texas, which highlighted the unlimited money donated to republican causes by just two billionaires. Since the lawsuit named a CCISD employee the board now has authority to fund the defense and voted to do so, unanimously with Cejka abstaining. According to Trustee Larson once the suit focuses on Cejka specifically the funding can come to a stop. I can't see that happening since Cejka did not run the elections, is not being accused of rigging the election, and did nothing but run in the election. Even if the lawsuit is successful Cejka cannot void the election, cannot order a new election, and can't run a new election. Why Dawson and Bowen thought suing Cejka was legally sound is beyond me.

In the other vote, the board voted to appoint someone to hear the formal grievance filed against Trustee Scott Bowen concerning his conflict of interest in the Dawson v Cejka lawsuit. That has been covered before and the vote was also unamimous with Bowen abstaining.
Bay Area Houstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00308326373999393221noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17537478.post-81252203268511584492022-08-01T07:15:00.003-05:002022-08-01T07:15:37.806-05:00Grievance filed against CCISD Trustee

This is what happens when CCISD is flooded with outside, unlimited, partisan money.

An official grievance has been filed against CCISD Trustee Scott Bowen for his conflict of interest in the past election resulting in a lawsuit by the loser against the winner, Jessica Cejka. Galveston County has their own oligarch in State Representative "Money" Mayes Middleton.

Over the last 8 years Money donated $8.1 Million to various organizations and candidates, including himself. In 2018 he spent nearly $2 Million of his own money to win a State Representative seat that should have cost $400,000 if it was competitive. (It wasn't). As of today he has spent over $5 Million on his own campaigns.

Money Mayes considers himself a Christian Conservative but donates money to State Representative Lacy Hull. According to Texas Scorecard, Hull's husband filed for divorce right after her election claiming she had and affair with State Representative Cole Hefner. Money donated $10,000 to her campaign. He also donated $30,000 to State Representative Valerie Swanson who was also caught up in this sordid affair.

Then there is State Representative Tony Tinderholt. According to the Houston Chronicle Tinderholt has been married FIVE times! So much for the "sanctity of marriage" bullshit. Money donated $7,500 to his campaign.

Other interesting donations include $13,000 to True Texas Project a conspiracy theory group promoting the "Big Lie". $50,000 to a home school PAC, $100,000 to Texans for Lawsuit Reform, $186,000 to State Representative Carrie Isaac for her reelection campaign, $300,000 to Louie Gohmert in his failed attempt at the Texas Attorney General race, $76,000 to the Galveston County Republican Party to keep it afloat, $302,000 to the now defunct Empower Texas

He also gave over $151,000 to the Texas Windstorm Action Committee which is strange and over $53,000 to Little Baby Briscoe Cain for various activities.

I've posted the entire list here.
Bay Area Houstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00308326373999393221noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17537478.post-57333618046980277982022-07-29T10:45:00.006-05:002022-07-30T14:22:51.313-05:00Donating Campaign Cash: The Texas Oligarchs Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks (CNN follow up)

CNN aired a segment titled Deep in the Pockets of Texas. If a new election is required his position must be on the ballot which creates one of many conflicts of interest. Bowen recruited Dawson. He is the lead of school board candidate recruitment for the Harris County Republican Party. Dawson's attorney was the general counsel of the Texas Republican Party. The Republican Party endorsed Bowen. The Republican Party donated to Bowen and Dawson. Bowen campaigned for Dawson. If Dawson, who is one of the worst candidates ever to apply for the position, would win it would give Bowen the necessary votes to become President of the Board.

Based upon his "legal" comments during the meeting it is clear he is working with the Dawson legal team. Bowen has been in closed door session discussing legal issues concerning this situation and I would bet he is conspiring with the Dawson legal team and providing confidential information. This cannot stand.

Bowen must recuse himself from all discussions and votes concerning these matters.
Bay Area Houstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00308326373999393221noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17537478.post-24472344143844230442022-07-26T07:26:00.000-05:002022-07-26T07:26:07.755-05:00CCISD Trustee Scott Bowen's legal coordinated assault against CCISD

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Scott Bowen is a dick and he is coordinating the lawsuit against Jessica Cejka.

Misty Dawson lost a very close election to Jessica Cejka. So instead of asking for a recount, like most losers do, she ran to Scott Bowen and filed a lawsuit demanding $100,000, to void the election, and to have another one. To muddle this situation, on purpose, they filed the suit against Jessica, NOT the school district.

So now Bowen, who seems to have gained his law degree over the last week or so, is defending Dawson's decision to file the suit against Jessica therefore the school district cannot, by law, pay for Jessica's defense. This is a setup. I bet Bowen, Davis, and Larson are all working with Dawson's attorney. They have organized people to talk at the meeting in support of the lawsuit. Bowen even referenced their comments. This is all a setup up.

I have to agree with Cottrell's comment about being bullied by those with money. Scott Bowen has money from the Republican Party to challenge these elections by filing against individuals. Bowen spent over $20,000 an obscene amount of money for a school district. All overs spent a couple of thousand.

This is a coordinated setup against the district, against the taxpayers, and against anyone who runs for office against Scott Bowen's supported candidate. Dawson went straight to a lawsuit with the help of the former attorney of the Republican Party. They have deep pockets. They have unlimited resources with millionaires and billionaires firmly behind them.

It is sad. Jessica is probably one of the best to ever run for the school district and Bowen is supporting the loser who is the absolute worst candidate to ever run for office.

You can watch Bowen kiss the republican party's ass here. It is about 30 minutes long.

Bay Area Houstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00308326373999393221noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17537478.post-74334079979050129742022-07-25T10:06:00.002-05:002022-07-25T10:06:12.565-05:00Raising Campaign Cash: Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia

Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia easily beat his opponent in the Democratic Primary by 60 percentage points and will face former Commissioner Jack Mormon in the general election.

In this period covering 1/20/22 to 6/30/22 Garcia raised $787,949, spent $675,976, has no outstanding loans, and has a Cash on Hand balance of $1,897,179. The report submitted by Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo for the period covering 2/20/2022 to 6/30/2022 was so large (over 800 pages) it would not download from the site. I was able to obtain a copy nevertheless. Not only is Hidalgo running for re-election she is also a marathon runner and she is running away in the fundraising campaign.

In this period Hidalgo raised $1,150,804, spent $569,065, has an outstanding loan of $1400, and has a Cash on Hand balance of $1,983,697. Of the $1,150,804 about $290,000 came from donations of $10,000 or more. The highest donation was $30,000. These donations account for about 25% of her entire fundraising for the quarter. Her opponent raised 70% of her total fundraising from just 7 individuals including 4 who gave $100,000 each.

The rest of her report was littered with 800 pages of small donations. But not today. Not today.

In his July report Mormon raised $63,144, spent $19,585 and has a Cash on Hand balance of only $69,638. He has no outstanding loans. His opponent in the runoff raised only $46,150. His opponents in the primary also had very weak fundraising results.

Mormon will face Commissioner Adrian Garcia who raised over $700,000 in the same period and has almost $2 Million Cash on Hand for the general election.
Bay Area Houstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00308326373999393221noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17537478.post-43095047910552667172022-07-18T07:29:00.001-05:002022-07-18T07:29:01.922-05:00Raising Campaign Cash: State Representative Dennis Paul (voucher money)

Dennis Paul isn't exactly a money making machine when it comes to raising campaign cash.

In his last financial report Paul raised $34,606, spent $21,461, and has $26,554 cash on hand. His opponents also were running on his record. Carroll Robinson of Houston hammered Hinojosa and his record everywhere he spoke. He criticized his record of just "maintaining" in 2020 when we ran against one of the worst human beings on the top of the ticket. We gained no ground. He criticized his record in the Valley where we lost in districts we should never had lost. He criticized his loss of Hispanic voters. He and others stated when you take credit for the gains of 2018 you must also take responsibility for just maintaining in 2020. He said it was time for something to change. Maintaining was not enough. It was time to win. He was right. He is right.

All of that changed after Robinson came in third place after the 1st vote. He addressed the delegates and instead of supporting the other change candidate he urged a vote for the very person who he criticized the day before. Instead of a change, as he was advocating for, he asked to maintain the course. The 2nd vote was taken and Hinojosa won. So here we are.....maintaining. Again.

Many delegates were very disappointed especially those who are on the street knocking doors and doing the hard work looking for help and guidance from the state party. Needless to say Olson supporters were disappointed as they should be. In the year of the Woman, we voted for a man. In the year of change, we voted to maintain.

Hinojosa has a few months to prove us all wrong. Our state has moved backwards on every issue important to Texans, gun massacres, teacher salaries and respect, women's rights, immigration, voting rights, the electricity grid, home insurance, property taxes, home prices, etc etc etc. What is he going to do? How are we going to make progress? How is the party going to help those willing to work especially those in the rural areas and in the Valley? These are good, valid questions.

Maintaining is not an option. Winning is. It's the only option now. Congratulations to the chair. Let's unite and move on. Let's progress. Let's move forward.
Bay Area Houstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00308326373999393221noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17537478.post-28158866104593945242022-07-16T10:36:00.004-05:002022-07-16T10:36:32.104-05:00Election for the Chair of the Texas Democratic Party coming up!
This ought to be fun.

We have 3 candidates to choose from, our current Chair Gilberto Hinojosa, Kim Olson, and Carroll Robinson. I've heard all three speak at various events and I have my personal choice. Here is what I think the atmosphere is like in the convention.

Most everyone I have asked have good words for Chairman Hinojosa but follow it with a big but......we need to do something different. Hinojosa is running on his record but the other two are running on his record also. Hinojosa has been the chair for 10 years now and quite frankly I have to agree with the opposition. Our state has moved backwards on all fronts and we stalled in 2020.

Lots of folks wearing pink Kim Olson shirts. Lots of women are supporting her. Robinson has a small showing. Hinojosa has a supporters but seem to be subdued. We will see what shakes out when the the sign waving starts.

Hinojosa has some interesting endorsements including one from an unknown PAC called Future Generations. Never heard of them but I received a text endorsing Hinojosa. FG was created recently, raised only $66,000 and seems to be endorsing far lefties across the county and Hinojosa, which I do not consider a far lefty. Not sure why they would pick a State Chair race to endorse.

Olson has received an endorsement from the Texas Progressive Caucus. I know very little about them.

Vote is later today.

Who's is Future Generations PAC?

Bay Area Houstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00308326373999393221noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17537478.post-73816362022398119012022-07-15T13:04:00.000-05:002022-07-15T13:04:04.011-05:00Hispanic Caucus at the Texas Democratic Convention
Another large and enthusiastic crowd at the Hispanic Caucus.

Luckily they put party business before speeches electing two State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) members and then passing a resolution to endorse current Chair Gilberto Hinojosa before adjourning.

Although the vast majority of members loudly supported Hinojosa there were pockets that were not. No one nominated either of the other two candidates so it is hard to gauge his support but it does seem to be pretty solid, but not completely. We heard from Carroll Robinson and he seemed to have a solid argument for a change in leadership. I look forward to hearing Kim Olson speak.

Many of the speakers talked about the strength of the Hispanic vote unfortunately over the last few elections Hispanics have not voted their strength. I have seen this party work on issues that are core to the Hispanic community for years, decades, and yet they do not vote their strength. If they would no one who makes fun of our language would ever hold office again. No one who puts a target on our backs because of our skin color would ever hold office again. Yet....they do not vote their strength.

Personally I have no idea WTF they are waiting for. Their kids have been shot. Their electricity cut off. They are targeted by white supremacy groups. Their home insurance, electricity, taxes, home prices have skyrocketed. WTLF are they waiting for?
Bay Area Houstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00308326373999393221noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17537478.post-92215213887980373862022-07-15T11:25:00.000-05:002022-07-15T11:25:14.345-05:00Women's Caucus at the Texas Democratic Convention. I would think hiring a firm that specializes in this type of search is a good idea since it would take a considerable amount of time to find, interview, and research a new superintendent.

Turns out Scotty is having none of it. One of the companies requesting consideration for the job advertises being an equal opportunity organization which basically means to look far and wide for the most qualified. The Twit claimed these women were celebrating the retirement of the CCISD Superintendent due to an illness in the family and setting their sights on Trustee Jay Cunningham. It seems that this is NOT an accurate description of those in the picture.

This pic has since been removed from this Twit's account probably because someone in the picture requested it. I received the following comment:

“Hi, John. I’m kindly alerting you that your words do not match the context of this picture just FYI. This photo was misrepresented on another post as well. You might want to consider removing this. I know for a fact they were under the premise that they were taking a picture to send to a friend who was unable to be in attendance. I also know at least three of these women have/had zero issues with Williams specifically and would never knowingly take a photo celebrating his departure. Just giving you full context.”

The Twit seems to be taking credit for the Superintendent leaving and have set their sights on CCISD Trustee Jay Cunningham. Jay beat Christine Parizo by 25% points in 2021. Parizo cost the district at least $45,000 due to repeated requests for public information and requests by the Texas Attorney Generals office. In the end she still lost and was eventually escorted out of a board meeting after Jay read a letter from the Attorney General emphasizing "This investigation is CU-LOSED!". Jay has performed very well for the district and should be able to hold the seat by another large margin.

So I would bet this Twit will probably get behind Parizo in 2023. If elected the Republican Party will be able to finally take over the CCISD board joining Davis, Larson, and Bowen and bring real family values to the district, like targeting teachers and parents who are divorced, coaches having affairs, those who have remarried and others who are violating the sanctity of marriage.

So I'm glad that this picture was incorrectly captioned and removed by the Twit.

Bay Area Houstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00308326373999393221noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17537478.post-32320409025079921672022-07-10T16:26:00.002-05:002022-07-10T16:26:21.319-05:00New City Council district maps leaves Clear Lake with Kingwood

Steve Stockman by the Texas Tribune

Well that was a long wait for nothing.

The city of Houston completed their proposed redistricting. The Houston Chronicle has a good article on the maps without mentioning District E which has connected Clear Lake with Kingwood by a canal, literally. The new map for the city can be viewed here.

Clear Lake has been gerrymandered for decades including the city districts. Because of this we no competition for city, state, or national office. So we have a choice between a far right republican and an extremely far right republican. Steve Stockman represented the Clear Lake area. After one useless term in office he was indicted and convicted on 23 felony counts. He spent 2 years in jail until Trump pardoned him. This is the kind of representation Clear Lake gets because of redistricting.

Now we have Congressman Babin, the ghost of Congress. He rarely comes out of his hole for fear of seeing his shadow or his constituents. Dennis Paul is our representative in Austin. He represents the NRA and also rarely comes out for fear of meeting his constituents in the greenbelt while walking his dog.

So after decades of being connected with Kingwood, 45 miles away, we are going to be stuck again. Parizo lost by 25 percentage points in 2021 to Jay Cunningham. It was clearly a no contest. After her epic defeat she demanded a recount, complained to the Texas Attorney General's office, and forced CCISD to spend resources to respond. The cost to tax payers? $44,590.

Now Misty Dawson, another loser in the CCISD elections, has filed suit asking the courts to declare the 2022 election void and to require another election. She also asked for $100,000 cash money. Parizo never filed suit.
