Dogpiling on the Hispanic voters who don't vote

As I said after the early voting totals were in, Hispanics are not voting. The Hispanic population could be the largest block of voters in Harris County unless they don't vote. And they proved that for the City races.

According to Marc Campos of Campos Communications Hispanics voted in the 9-11% range in the city elections and he has some pretty strong words for all Hispanics:
I’m going to recommend that the next Houston Area Latino Summit focus on Latino voter participation. For now, our “Si Se Puede” slogan has been temporarily revoked. We can’t Si Se Puede if we keep doing No Se Puede! All of us Latinos that are involved in H-Town politics ought be hanging our heads in shame right now. Latino power my arse!
Stace at Dos Centavos also has commentary on the issue. I have to agree with both. Why would any candidate pump money into winning the vote of those who do not vote? This has to change. At the very least the cheap pandering promises made by some candidates didn't sway anyone.

We can't expect to be heard if we do not speak up at the ballot box. If we do not vote, then we condone the actions of the few in attacking and blaming the Hispanic population for the city's problems. If we don't vote we condone racial profiling and those who pander on the steps of City Hall to the extreme right wing immigrant bashers.

We will talk about this at the next Latino Summit and then we will vote in November.

Is that 9-11% of registered Hispanic voters? Or 9-11% of the Hispanic population? It does make a difference, John, given the citizenship gap.

What is the citizen gap? How many legal vs illegal?

John, considering your Hispanic heritage, you should know that accents matter. With the unaccented I, "Si Se Puede" means "If we can."

I didn't think your Spanish could be worse than your English, but I guess I learn something new every day.

It's 11% of registered Hispanic Voters. If it was of Hispanics, in general, it would be in the low single digits.

Thanks Stace!

And anonymous, I was quoting Marc Campos. Go complain to him.

And that was the question I was trying to ask. I was seeking clarity, not a fight.

Too bad that John would prefer the latter to the former.

And now you got your answer.

republicans have no business picking fights. They tend to run with their tails between their legs when they do.

Especially young conservatives who claim to support the war in Iraq.

Especially young conservatives who claim to support the war in Iraq.

The vast majority of soldiers lean conservative.
