Any Republican candidate. The Republican party must have worked overtime to find this bunch of losers for President. White. Old. Dull. Rudy is running on his crowned success with 911. Thompson looks like death warmed over. (but he has a hot looking daughter) Romney can't take a stand on anything. McCain is financially broke. Ron Paul is mentally broke. And the others combined are nuttier than your crazy aunt's Christmas fruit cake. Get over it folks. This country is not ready for another Republican administration.Dennis Kucinich. Kucinich has about as much a chance to win as Ron Paul. Nice guy. Exciting. But has not chance to appeal to the independents of the Country, or even majority of the Democrats in his own party.
Gravel. Count on it. He aint getting the nod from the Democrats to represent the party.
Biden, Dodd, Richardson. All three of these are excellent candidates but have not caught on fire and won't. They are there to influence the discussion, nothing more. Either one of these are better than the entire Republican field of candidates.
Well that leaves the Senators Clinton, Obama, and Edwards. Based upon the absolutely horrible bunch of candidates the Republican Party is fielding, the Democrats will elect the next President of the United States.

Why is Ron Paul mentally broke for: obeying the constitution; asking to bring troops home immediately; moving to secure the value of the dollar; and trying to limit the authority of a government run wild?
It will be very hard to nominate him as the republican candidate; harder still to defeat the democratic candidate, but it is worth a shot.
It is not like Americans are all that ecstatic about the democratic candidates either.
Let's hope that we can, after two decades, finally get a new surname into the White House.
"It will be very hard to nominate him as the republican candidate; harder still to defeat the democratic candidate, but it is worth a shot."
As is the point of the post. Lets admit it. Clinton, Obama and Edwards are the only real contenders in this race.
John:
Why are you troubled that Fred Thompson is a virile man still able to attract a beautiful woman and father children in his 60s?
Is there an ED problem causing personal insecurity?
I think he means that thompson is ready to screw Americans, regardless of their age!
I think we have been screwed by republicans long enough.
Wait a minute.......that is his DAUGHTER, right?
I wouldn't be so quick to write off Ron Paul.
With still over a month to go in 4th quarter, his online donations have topped 9.2 megabucks, and there’s still another major money bomb coming in December.
I’ve been with the revolution since April and have been surprised by how much its organization has improved since then. There’s still a lot of homemade signs and YouTubers of course… But there’s also several hours of grassroots supporter education available, and the strategies for infiltrating the hostile republican machine are well defined for every precinct in each state.
I remain realistic about his chances. The neocon political machine dislikes Ron Paul even more than they hate Hillary, And it will be a tough fight. Things are gonna get real interesting in January…
You Paul guys are about as delusional as the Kucinich guys.
Seriously Paul is not getting the nomination. Bet your house on it.
his own party can't stand him because he knows attacking iraq was a huge mistake and he says it. The members of the republican party still thinks we are going to bring democracy to Iraq.
And the WMDs were move to Syria.
From yesterday's WaPo:
'In April 2006, the Pew Research Center published a study suggesting that 9 percent of Americans -- more than enough to swing every presidential election since 1988 -- espouse a "libertarian" ideology that opposes "government regulation in both the economic and the social spheres." That is, a good chunk of your fellow citizens are fiscally conservative and socially liberal; in bumper-stickerese, they love their countrymen but distrust their government. Anyone looking to win elections -- or to make sense of contemporary U.S. politics -- would do well to understand the deep and growing reservoir that Paul is tapping into.'
If the Torys are really doomed, it's a shame we can't run Dennis Kucinich, a real progressive. Let the GOP slime machine fire up their dog whistles and do their worst. We have Clinton the lesbian, Obama the muslim, and Edwards the homo. What worse could they say about the peace elf?
Unlike Kucinich, Ron Paul is a real candidate, running a real campaign, spending real money.
He has momentum, $9m in the bank (growing every day) and a very active following.
He is starting to run tv commercials, send out campaign flyers to potential voters...
He also has lots of upside surprise given that the media refuses to take him seriously; people passively or not interested in politics no little about the specifics of his candidacy.
But whenever they hear about him, they like his ideas of freedom, balanced budgets, reduced spending and a humble foreign policy. It is incredibly refreshing to hear ideas come out of a politicians mouth whenever he opens it.
Now he does have an uphill battle and he may not get the nomination.
But there is no need to abandon hope. Ron Paul is the only candidate in the race I can unequivocably vote FOR; I'm not about to waste my vote on anyone else.
Worst case scenario: Ron Paul does not get the nomination, Hillary gets elected and follows the same policies as Bush.
Paul is the only chance Republicans have to get into office, which is unfortunately, as you mention, remote.
Wow. If Ron Paul is the best the republicans have, you guys are in one hell of a pickle!
Although that is not saying much. Guiliani, Thompson, Romney, etc are pretty much scraping the barrel.
When people hear Ron Paul, they like him. When they start listening, they run like scared bunnies.
If it makes you feel any better, we have Kucinich.
The Republican party must have worked overtime to find this bunch of losers for President. White. Old. Dull.
Excepting "dull," which I think we can all agree is a negative factor, why are age and race relevant?
Or, more precisely, what age range and racial background are acceptable in a presidential candidate, John?
Breaking news:
Hillary Clinton today announced her campaign commitment to reform the Patriot Act, restore habeas corpus and prohibit torture.
OOPSIE!!!
I meant to say Ron Paul!
My bad...
Carry on with the imperialist agenda Hilly-Baby!
With any luck, this election will be about ideas. All thanks to Ron Paul and his supporters.
We have spent hundreds of billions on the Iraq war, lost thousands of American lives (not to mention all the Iraqis) and surrendered large amounts of our rights to privacy. What have we gained for such a huge expense?
We are facing a very real risk of entering a recession not seen since the Great Depression. All because the Fed prints more and more paper to finance the ever increasing size of the federal government.
What have Democrats done to try and change the direction of America towards something better since taking back control of Congress? If you agree with around 70-80% of the country who thinks Congress is doing as poor a job as Bush, very, very little. So why should we assume Clinton, Obama and Edwards will be any different as president?
Ron Paul has presented more legislation to reduce earmarks, revoke the President's authority to go to war without congress' approval, cut spending, expand freedmon than any other person in any capacity in Washington.
We can only assume he will do the same, but be far more effective at accomplishing them, as President.
Matt,
Did you enjoy riding your magic sparkle pony around Hacienda de Bramanti on Thanksgiving?
Anonymous, I had a nice Thanksgiving. Spent it with my family, decorated the house for Christmas and ate pretty well.
How about you?
The democrats will elect the next president? haha, where do you people get this crap? There's no way Americans will vote for a freakin' woman as president, it just isn't going to happen. There are way too many guys, like me, who on principle would not vote for a GIRL to be leader of the free world. Three words: Fuck. That. Shit.
As for Obama, the guy is a total liberal moron. McCain will wipe the floor with either of the remaining democrats. He's leading in almost every recent head-to-head poll against Clinton, for instance.
Republicans will win president again. Count on it. And no I'm not a republican, but I am a fan of the lesser of two evils, and that's definitely McCain. Some of the other republican candidates are truly freakin' morons, religious radicals who are a disgrace to the country.
