The high cost of college tuition deregulation. Tuition increases again.

And you wonder why Texas sucks?
AUSTIN — An advisory panel has recommended that the University of Texas at Austin raise its average undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees next year by nearly 8 percent, to $4,153 a semester, and nearly 7 percent the year after that — well ahead of inflation.
Isn't this getting a bit old? Our Republican controlled state promised lower insurance rates and electricity through deregulation and yet our rates have never been higher. And now this.
Since deregulation passed in 2003, UT-Austin has seen its tuition and fees rise by 63 percent for an in-state undergraduate. The university ranks ninth in cost out of 12 large public universities to which it compares itself. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign ranked first, costing $11,130.
Well as State Representative John Davis has said during his 2006 debate "44% increase in tuition is not unreasonable". Davis' son is attending Baylor.

A University of Texas education is quite a deal.

Brilliant analysis. Witty and incisive as always.

You act like you make sense in your responses when instead you just have your ass up in the air asking for more.

You must have battered wife syndrome.

Anonymous, tuition and fees at UT are among the lowest in that school's peer group.

Do you think a UT education is overpriced? If so, what facts can you cite to support your belief?

I dont think that is the point.

Of course since you have your lips sewn to the ass of the republican party, you really wouldnt understand it anyway.

sewn to the ass......

Funny!

What is the point, then? John's complaining about the cost of tuition at UT, despite the fact that it's a bargain.

Of course since you have your lips sewn to the ass of the republican party, you really wouldnt understand it anyway.

How do you figure that? I've been publicly critical of Republicans countless times, to include the governor and lieutenant governor.

You have kissed the ass of the leadership of this state so much, they have suggested you sew your lips to them!

And TU tuition was a bargain in 2003 AND 63% lower! What is your point?

Hell, my kid is going to school and they just raised rates by 10%!!!!

Don't tell me this is a great deal!

Bring back 2003 and get your lips sewn on Perry's ass.

What can I say? It is a great deal. It's a far better deal than you'll find at comparable schools.

As John pointed out, UT is the third-cheapest school in its 12-school peer group. Regardless of recent increases, that's still a good deal.

Look at it this way. If you found a grocery store selling milk for two bucks a gallon, you'd jump all over it, because it'd be such a great deal. If that store raised the price to $3.00, it would still be a great deal.

You're complaining about gouging when the cost of an education is still well below market.

Matt,

What peer group - and at that do you really believe that UT fits in that peer group? I believe you are being dooped!

What peer group

Do 30 seconds of homework. Then again, John could have posted a link to the story, rather than simply plagiarizing it.

UT's peer schools are other large, high-quality state schools, to wit (in descending order of price):

University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign

University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

Michigan State University

University of Minnesota-Twin Cities

Ohio State University-Main Campus

University of California-Berkeley

Indiana University-Bloomington

University of California-Los Angeles

University of Wisconsin-Madison

University of Washington

University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill

- and at that do you really believe that UT fits in that peer group?

Yes, I think UT belongs in the same peer group at UCLA, Ohio State and Indiana. It's a large, well-funded flagship state university, like the others in the peer group.

I believe you are being dooped!

Heh, "dooped." I got a kick out of that one.

you dumbass. the point of the entire post was the cost. TU is 63% higher than it was in 2003. QED dumbass.

My kids college when up 44% since 2003. QED dumbass.

So much for deregulation. It is pricing many out of going to these so called fine institutions.

I sure hope you're not helping them with their homework.
