Nothing like following their leader. The leadership of the Fort Bend Republican Party has resigned. Just like their leader, Tom DeLay, they quit. From Fort Bend Now:
In a surprise announcement before an audience of elected Republican officials on Thursday, Fort Bend County GOP Chairman Gary Gillen said he and a slate of top party officers have quit.Citing untenable political differences with what he termed “a number of fringe elements in the party,” Gillen said he, party Treasurer Richard McCarter, Secretary Nancy Porter and Parliamentarian Dick Hudgins have resigned effective immediately.
Whatever the reason for them eventually quiting, their party has been in turmoil ever since Tom DeLay resigned from office. Maybe they went crazy trying to keep Shelley Sekula Gibbs off the write-in ballot. Or trying to defend Tom DeLay and his relationship with Abramoff. Or trying to defend their County Commissioners with the anti-immigrant political signs.

"anti immigrant" signs.
Here we go again. While there may be an undercurrent of truth buried in the sign's sentiment, I'd be the first to agree they were a bit over the top, mean spirited (toward Democrats) and even a little kooky.
But I didn't see the word "immigrant" on those signs anywhere. What I did see was the word "ILLEGALS", which is the crux of the matter in question.
What kind of credibility do you garner when you print demonstrably wrong text alongside a photo verifying such.
Repulicans and Democrats alike are selling us out wholesale on the illegal immigration issue. Shame on the Republican goobers for putting up those signs, but shame on you for deliberately misrepresenting such a critical issue.

That sign was put across the street from a predominately Hispanic grade school.
I'm just saying......
Dirk makes a good point... It's pretty clear that neither the democrat nor republican leadership really gives a hoot about the real issues of immigration, but both are more than willing to use the surrounding controversy to their advantage.
That's about all you can expect from a hopelessly and inherently corrupt two party duopoly. Lots of talk, but no action--either way.
The people deserve better representation than has been delivered by the status quo, imho.
Seriously, whether you lean democrat or republican, are you satisfied with the choices typically presented to you?
I'm Not...
The State deserves better leadership than what we have had over the last 10 years.
The republican party has proven they cannot lead, govern, or think.
Everything they have touched as turned to crap.
Gillen quit because he was about to have his head handed to him in the March primary, when he would have been repudiated by the GOP voters in his bid for reelection. So rather than allow that to happen, Gillen and his hand-picked team of appointees decapitated the organization.
A headless surrender monkey. Wow that is an image.
Word has it that the neocons of the party are going to take over. Nothing like having more war mongers at the helm.
Well, what will actually happen is that the elected precinct chairs of Fort bend County will choose new leaders. So the only way "neo-cons" will win is if they won at the polling place in March of 2006, when Gary Gillen got only slightly more than 1/3 of the vote.
