Turns out the
email sent by City Councilwoman Shelley Sekula-Rodriguez-Gibbs calling on constituents to take an
anti-immigration petition to their churches, will not be well recieved at the local Catholic Churches in her area.
The language and intention of this petition does not reflect the sentiment of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops or the leadership of the Roman Catholic Church in America. I strongly encourage you to read the statement from USCCB (usccb.org) and meet with Archbishop DiNardo or Bishop Vasquez from the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to learn more on the Roman Catholic Church’s position on immigration and immigration reform.
Therefore, I cannot endorse, nor can any Roman Catholic parish or institution, clergy or religious community endorse this petition.
P.S. Confession is heard every Sunday.

This is all about getting the nomination. Sekula-Gibbs obviously knows which hot buttons work with the four right wingers who may or may not be appointing a new Republican nominee. The Catholic vote has been trending Republican anyway in general elections, except now that Lampson is Catholic too.
Dr. Gibbs can't out-Bible-thump Bob Talton, who appears now to be The Chosen One -- that is, if Judge Sparks allows it.
This group she hooked up with, Protect Our Citizens, is from way out on the nutball spectrum. Take a look at their website, and try to read the articles without becoming physically ill.
Guess it's hard to find good race-baiters on a deadline...
Gee, John, do i understand this correctly? Do you really wish to impose the Catholic position on immigration on the rest of society? You wouldn't stand for that on abortion -- why here, other than hypocrisy?
And if you treated Shelley's courage and integrity the way you treat other dissenters from Catholic teachin ("pr-choice" Catholics), you would be praising her as a heroine.
I guess you really don't have a principle to stand upon.
"Do you really wish to impose the Catholic position on immigration on the rest of society?"
No, he wants Shelley's priest to know what she is advocating. Nothing more.
Go back to drinking.
