Congressional hopeful rallies racists in the GOP.

Houston City councilwomen, and Congressional candidate wannabe for District 22, Shelley Sekula-Rodriguez-Gibbs sent an email "Protect Our Citizens Anti-Sanctuary Campaign" from her campaign which looks to rally the far right wing racists of the Republican party.
Please join me and other concerned Houstonians in obtaining the required signatures to get a City of Houston Charter Amendment on the ballot in November to reverse Houston's Sanctuary City policy.
This is in reference to a petition being circulated to demand the City of Houston Police to enforce federal laws in apprehending undocumented workers in the city. (as if we have the time, the money, and the manpower to do so) (and we don't)

Make no mistake what this is all about, and it is a shame that Shelley has stooped to this level bordering on racism. This is about catering to the far-far right of the Republicans in District 22 so she may get the privilege of being selected as "The Chosen One" to replace Tom DeLay on the ballot.

This is the same party with the "We hate Mexicans" platform adopted at the GOP's state convention. And this is the same party that is going to lose the House of Representatives in Congress.

And this is the reason for raising the immigration issue and the ONLY reason for doing so. The Republicans have nothing to run on and nothing to bring out the vote, so they have resorted to the "We hate Mexicans", "We hate fags", but "We love the flag" rhetoric. Her email shouldn't have been titled "Protect Our Citizens Anti-Sanctuary Campaign". It should have been "Protect the GOP From Getting Wiped Out in Nov."

Knowing Shelley, I am very surprised that she would stoop this low, be this vicious, and cold-hearted in her attempt to be "The Chosen One".

My bet is that this petition will backfire, just like the immigrant rallies, and people of all colors will denounce the racial overtones and remove the hatefilled GOP from office.

Good grief! When did she become such an aggressive bitch? I don't remember her always being this way. This is a transparent, desperate attempt to pander to the ultra right wing gang of four.

Completely out of character for Gibbs. She lost my consideration of her for Congress.

I guess you have to be a mean bastard or bitch to be a Congressman of district 22.

My memory is failing me. Didn't her last name used to be Rodriguez?

Assuming that the Republicans are actually able to manipulate the system just one more time and nominate a replacement for the departed Tom DeLay - the nominee will be the person most able to impress four of the most hard-core right-wingers in the country that he or she is one of them. That's the way DeLay rigged the map, Sekula-Gibbs just figured it out ahead of the others.

Wow. Loved the non sequitor. Is there a subsequent post that is going to make the link between the petition and racism or are we to simply believe whatever you say without you backing it up with either logic or facts? I guess demagoguery truly is the tool of the moronic.

Like duh. The racism comment is an opinion. And one that I agree with.

This isnt about homeland security. It is about energizing the base.

I guess that Barbie City Councilwoman hasn't seen the demographics for District 22. A strong Hispanic turnout will win this race.

Go Shelley! Hack off the Hispanics! Guarantee the seat for Democrats!

Uh, say Anon - has it escaped your notice that most of the people being discussed here (sometime referred to as undocumented workers or illegal aliens) are brown in skin color? I think we can safely say that a good bit of the anxiety about immigration, legal or not, is because the vast majority are Hispanic. I'd say that meets the test of being logic and fact.

So tell me again where it says anything about Hispanics? I think it's ridiculous that HPD is not allowed (according to their documents) to retain people that are - duh - breaking the law by BEING HERE ILLEGALLY. It says in their documents that illegals are from many different countries.

While Shelly isn't the most politically correct politician - she is after all a M.D. not a professional politician - she seems to have rational reasons for most of what she's doing, even if she's a little odd doing it.

So all you so-educated critics, attack the policy and drop the ad hominem (yes, I took a logic class in college) attacks. What's wrong with allowing HPD to arrest people doing illegal things?

If the public only knew about Ms. Sekula-Gibbs family values. Has anyone bothered to do any investigation into her and her husbands family situation. I think if the public knew how she ran her personal life there would be no way in hell anyone would vote for her. Trust me, she and her husband are not nice people. Can anyone say "Black Widow".
